Orientation day (4th Jan 09) 11.30am -1.30pm
Hubby and I went to school with Dillon at 11.30am and everything is fine at the beginning. Dillon likes his school, especially the toy car in the playground (ahem…what else right?). His classroom is locate don the 2nd floor and there are 8 kids in his class, 2 girls and 6 boys at this moment. Dillon is very shy (ahem…) in the class and is always looking for me, so I spent some time in the class and play puzzle together with him. After that I went and waited outside the classroom.
I guess most kids at this age have very short attention period, Dillon just can’t stay in the classroom for more than 5 minutes, and he would come out and wander around, pushing the trolley in and out the classroom, he basically don’t take teacher’s instruction and enjoyed doing his own activity. (sigh)
He didn’t cry on this day, because I was always in his sight, and he did constantly checking if I was around, I really don’t know how it would be like when he eventually gonna be there by himself……
Day 1 (5th Jan 09) 11.30am - 2.00pm
Hubby sent me and Dillon to school today and I have planned to follow the school van home, so that at least Dillon can try to get used to the van ride. When we reached school at 11.00am, Dillon head to the playground straight and I took the chance to leave for breakfast with hubby after I informed the teacher.
When I returned 30 minutes later, I can’t seem to find Dillon anywhere and I know something must be not right and true enough, the class teacher told me that Dillon was looking around for me, he wasn’t crying badly but was very upset that he didn’t see me around, he was still sobbing when he sees me and he immediately took his bag and pull my hand asking me to go bring him home. My heart feel so sad to see him like this, it’s so pitiful but I calm him down by offering him a candy and sweet talk to him. We then enter the classroom together.
It was the same thing today, some kids in his class were still crying badly for their parents, while some remains calm. I noticed that only the boys cry so far, the 2 girls were calm, although they are also 1st year at school, so is it true that girls are more mature and well behaved than the boys???
Dillon didn’t cry in the class, the only thing is that he cannot remain focus on what teacher is talking, he keeps going in and out the classroom looking for his toys to play with and wandering around other classroom and I have to force him to go back in the classroom (teacher said she will close the door tomorrow onwards so hopefully that will constraint him). He is still very shy, he didn’t talk to anybody in the class, when teacher ask him questions, he just smile and look away shyly (I never know that my son is a shy person, lol). Well hopefully he will be better when he gets familiar with the environment and people around.
As for the van ride, he enjoyed it very much, maybe because I was accompanying him. Tomorrow I will still accompany him to the school by van but I have planned to leave him in the school soon after he enter the classroom, and he will take the van home by himself. I am expecting that he will be very upset not to see me around, he might be crying badly and refuse to go on the van whatsoever, but I guess this is a phase that h needs to go through eventually, I have to go back to work on Wednesday and I have to leave him in the good hands, I trust that the teachers and the van driver will be capable to handle him. *fingers crossed*
My conversation with Dillon:
Me: Do you like going to school?
D: Yes, like.
Me: Do you want to go to school again tomorrow?
D: Yes I want, mummy will come with me to school.
Me: No, mummy needs to work.
D: Mummy don’t need to work
Me: Yes, if mummy don’t work, no money to send you to school.
D: Papa goes to work, mummy no need to go.
Me: (speechless…..)
Me: Dillon you want to go to school?
D: Yes.
Me: Uncle will take us to school by van, ok?
D: Ok.
Me: You like the van?
D: Yes, like.
Me: Mummy goes to work and uncle will fetch you to school by van, ok?
D: No, mummy come together.
Me: No mummy have to work, you go with uncle, understand?
D: Understand.
Me: Sure?
D: Sure.
Me: You want to cry?
D: No la.
Me: You good boy?
D: Yes.
Well, I shall see if he really understands what I said……
It’s the 2nd day of year 2009 today, Dillon will be going to Mayter Montessori school starting next week and this coming Sunday will be his orientation day. He is excited about his school but I think I am more excited than him.
Dillon will be in afternoon class, starting at 11.30pm - 2.15pm and he will be taking the school van. I’m actually quite worried if he is willing to get on the van and travel to school with the driver and other kids, so far he has not been travelling anywhere without our companion.
As most of you know and seen that how active Dillon is, he can never sit still for more than 10 seconds except when you buckled him on a car seat or high chair; so I am very keen to know how he would behave while in the classroom….. lol
I will be off on 5th & 6th just to tailgate the van and observe him at school for 2 days, hopefully by then he would have adapted himself at the new environment.
Stay tuned for my next update and photos. ![]()
Let’s Deliver Smiles charity project – Phase 1 has received good response and support from all kind hearted people. Although time is short where we have only 2 weeks to spread the news, collect and sorting the stuffs, it’s really not to juggle but we have made it in time and deliver all items to the homes before Christmas. We even picked the new or used but in excellent conditions items and had a jumble sale in the office and we managed to raise RM 570.00 cash!!!
Although the idea was initiated by just a few people (who at first barely had a clue on how to start running the project) but with the support from everybody, this project became a success. We have delivered the donated items, which includes clothing, toys, sports equipment, books, food and drinks to the following 6 homes:
1. WAO CCC (PJ)
2. Beautiful Gate Caring Center (PJ)
3. Shelter Christian Fellowship For Aid and Welfare Selangor (PJ)
4. Persatuan Kanak-Kanak Spastik Selangor (PJ)
5. Rumah Kebajikan Anbu Illam (Ulu Klang)
6. Rumah BAKTI (Ulu Klang)
Special thanks to:
1. Mary who delivered to WAO CCC and a kind PR company that donated a cheque.
2. Mike who delivered to Beautiful Gate & Shelter Home.
3. Kenny who delivered to Spastik Home
4. Fei who delivered to Anbu Illam and Bakti along with myself and Dillon (he just accompanied me only, hehehe)
And also thanks to my family members, colleagues, friends and my blog visitors (you know who you are), you are part of this meaningful project and I truly appreciate your contributions.
Although we cannot help all the less fortunate people out there but we could at least do what we can at best, it might be small but it’s the thought that counts, sometimes it may only takes time and effort to make thigns happen.
This is not the end, it’s just the beginning, it will and it should continue……Stay tuned for Phase 2 of this charity project and I wish you could be part of it too.
Below are a few pictures covering part of this meaningful project.
Do you have a first aid box at home? I am sure most people would have this for emergency uses. But I think to safe proof our house, we would need to have safety equipment as well, the basic stuffs shall include fire extinguisher, gloves, flashlight and insulated hand tools such as screwdrivers, wrenches and ratchets, keep them in the storeroom and they will become handy when we needed them.
My cousin’s house just got broken in few weeks back, it was a serious loss for her but the lucky part was that no one was hurt in the incident. Everybody is feeling insecure nowadays, even at own home. Burglaries and robberies can still happen even when there are people at home and this is exposing us to a serious risk. For me, my major concern would be my kids who are left at home with my maid throughout the day when my husband and I are at work. Therefore, a modern and reliable home security system is very essential to us so that it can effectively protect our valuables and most importantly our beloved family members.
A friend of mine recently held a house warming party and since I don’t know what to buy for her, so I join in the pool with my other friends to get her a pair of Moroccan lamps. She is staying in a nice condominium and the house is tastefully decorated. She was so delighted to see our gift because the Moroccan lampsare beautiful and blends in so well with the ambiance of the house. Now I feel so tempted to buy one for my bedroom as well.
Went to Ikea on last Friday but didn’t get to eat the Swedish meatballs there because it was too crowded and I only have limited time to shop for my stuffs. So instead, I bought the packet of meatball sauce mixture and decided to homemade the meatballs over the weekend, and it turns out well.
Ingredients:
Minced beef (250g), minced pork (120g), chopped onion (half), egg (half), milk, cornflour, salt & pepper
This made into 22- 24 meatballs
Method:
1. Mix all the ingredients into a bowl evenly, marinade it for 10-15 minutes.
2. Scoop the mixture, roll in the palm and shape into balls, give final mold with fingers.
3. Heat the pan with oil, put in the meatballs batch by batch, turn to medium high heat and fry for 2 minutes.
4. Turn over and fry on the other side, repeat until all meatballs are done.
5. To make the sauce, I add the packet of sauce mixture (bought at Ikea supermarket) with cold water and cream and bring it to boil, then it is done.
6. Coat the meatballs with sauce and it’s ready to serve. (add chopped parsley for nicer presentation)
The meatballs can be served as it is without the sauce, Dillon & Kaith like it that way, whereas I serve it with the sauce, poached potatoes, sauteed button mushroom and spaghetti with fried garlic oil.
Nowadays many women has opted to quit their job to become a stay home mother after having children because they wanted to bring up the children themselves. In order to also have some side income to support the family, they can also do home business such as starting up an online store selling products or services, or they can even take some home based freelance job.
The last time when I went to Korea for 5 days, I have to borrow the big luggage bag from my sister so that it is specious enough to put all my stuffs. But it will be more convenient for me to get my own luggage bag for future usage and I am now checking out the Samsonite luggage bags, it’s not cheap but the quality is guaranteed and I like their designs.
One of my company’s benefits to the staff is to provide medical insurance coverage to every staff, regardless of ranking in the company. And the best part is this benefit is also extended to the staff’s spouse and all children, which not many companies in here would do. For the staffs that need to travel frequently on business trips, they are covered with travel insurance as well.
I am re-posting this because it’s something meaningful to be shared with all my blog readers.
So what have you got as Christmas gifts for the kids this year? Toys? Books? CDs? Games? Maybe you should consider “My Beautiful Myanmar” book, this would be a very meaningful gift.
This is a life changing book project by the Kachin (Northern Myanmar state) Refugee kids living in Malaysia. My boss’ wife, Ms. Belle Lee volunteered herself at the refugee school and came up with this class project to raise funds for the Myanmar people in the aftermath of the cyclone as well as for the 2 Kachin schools which are currently only funded by individual donors. 100% of the profits will go towards the Cyclone Relief Fund & the refugee schools.
My Beautiful Myanmar contains drawings and stories from the refugee kids about why they left Myanmar, what their lives are like in Malaysia and what their hopes are for their future.
Please support this project by buying a copy (or more!) of the book as well as spreading the word about it. Also we would be very grateful to those who are willing to help us distribute the books at your businesses, among friends, your churches, clubs, etc. on consignment basis.
This high-quality 40-page color book is ONLY RM15 each. Shipping can be done via pos ekspress or normal mail, and cost to be borne by buyer, as I’m not taking any profit from this, all is for charity.
If you’re keen please contact me via email (yiaukaren@gmail.com) or leave your comment here. Your help is immensely appreciated!
P/S: Trust me, besides donating to help these less fortunate children, this is a good book with touching & valuable true stories that we should let our children read, and appreciate what they are having now. RM15 for a valuable lesson is definitely worth the money.
